Yaghoub Karimpour, an Azerbaijani Turk from Miandoab (Qoshachay) and a follower of Ahl-e Haqq, executed

Yaghoub Karimpour

The judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced today, 2 May 2026 (12 Ordibehesht 1405), that it had carried out the death sentence of Yaghoub Karimpour on the charge of "intelligence cooperation and espionage" for Israel during the 12-day war.

Yaghoub Karimpour, a citizen of Miandoab (Qoshachay) county and a follower of Ahl-e Haqq, was arrested on 16 June 2025 (26 Khordad 1404). Throughout his detention he was denied access to a lawyer and to family visits, and for about two months he was subjected to torture to extract forced confessions. Born in 1982/83 (1361), he was married and a law graduate of Maragheh University.

In an earlier letter from Urmia Prison, Karimpour listed a series of violations of his legal rights. According to the letter, much of the material cited in the judicial file as evidence of the charge was written under coercion, threats and the suggestion of interrogators, and lacked free will. He stressed that he never had access to government, military or security centres and had no possibility of obtaining classified information.

He also wrote that until the file was sent to court he was denied access to a lawyer, and that even a court-appointed lawyer was not made available to him.

One of the main points of the letter was that his access to vital medication was cut off and that interrogators used this as a means of pressure to obtain forced confessions.

In another part of the letter he wrote that interrogators, by threatening to intensify the abuse and torture of his wife, tried to force him to sign statements contrary to the facts.
