On the morning of Sunday 28 June 2026 (7 Tir 1405), security forces of the Islamic Republic arrested three Azerbaijani civil activists, Asgar Akbarzadeh, Ali Vaseqi and Siamak Mirzaei, in Ardabil.
According to reports received, Asgar Akbarzadeh was arrested at his workplace, Ali Vaseqi at his home in Ardabil, and Siamak Mirzaei by security agents in Meshginshahr. At the same time as the arrests, security forces searched the homes and workplace of these individuals.
At the time of writing, none of the responsible bodies has announced the reasons for the arrests, the charges against the three activists or where they are being held, and their situation remains shrouded in uncertainty.
